2002-06-21 | 1:03 p.m. It's been a good morning. I woke up at 9 so I could watch Manhattan . I hardly remembered the movie, but I knew I liked it. I didn't get a chance to watch it yesterday evening since Mama stayed home. I started watching this morning at 9:30 so I could be done by 11:00, shower up and be ready when Uttara came over. God, what a fabulous movie. Woody Allen is so neurotic and real . His chemistry with Diane Keaton is amazing, and I thought Meryl Streep was really good too. Those that love NYC will appreciate the movie even more. I still think Annie Hall is a much better movie, though -both script and direction-wise - but Manhattan is more aesthetically pleasing. It's also more serious, of course, but Allen's wit still comes through. "I think people should mate for life. Like pigeons or Catholics". - What a great line. Uttara just left about 5 minutes ago. I know this sounds really silly to say considering she's only 5 years younger than I am, but she really makes me proud! I gave her a test on all the verbs we've done so far - er and some irregular- and she got all of it correct. Even voir and faire which she usually messes up. She's both bright and diligent, and I wonder what I would have done if she wasn't. I could've dealt with her being not-so-bright but hard-working, but if she was just plain lazy, I'm not so sure I'd be able to be so patient with her. It makes me feel good about myself too to see how fast she's learned. Today she made a whole sentence by herself. She said "Il y a un livre sur la table" . Mighty impressive. Apparently, she thinks I'm a great teacher. Her mum told me so. I should visit NYC sometime. See why all these great artists (Salinger, Lennon, Allen...need I say more?) loved it so much.
